2008 SkillsUSA State competition
Six of our young people went to this year's SkillsUSA State competition. Two competed in the carpentry competition, Nagi Kahala senior HHS, and Danny Dresselhouse senior PHS. Nagi took fifth in the State and Danny finished 10th. It was a very difficult project and Nagi was one of only three to complete it.
We sent a group of four to compete in the Team Works competition: Jason Watson junior PHS, carpenter, Jiho Kim senior PHS plumber, Jamie Linn senior HHS electrician and Pablo Salazar junior HHS mason. They performed very well, in fact taking the lead after the initial stage with their job proposal presentation. They completed the total project and came ever so close to bringing home a medal finishing in fourth place.
Though our group was disappointed in their non-medal performances , I could not be more proud of their conduct and effort. They made all who saw them proud of how they represented the AASBIP. We had a lot of fun and the weekend shows that we are continuing to make progress.
A special thanks to Joyce Hunter and her office for their support. Thank you also to parents who came up to provide refreshments and support; Bob and Carlin Dresselhouse, Jody Linn and Pam Watson.
