The 12th home was built under the direction of
Dave Peters of Fry-Peters Associates, Architects and Planners
. Dave also served as President of the Board of Directors
for the Student Home Building Industry Program. Thirty high
school students constructed the home. The Instructor was
Thomas Lancaster and he was assisted by Geoff Brown.
Huron High School Student, Christopher Heaton,
designed the 1982 home. Christopher’s winning design was
chosen from participants of the Huron Drafting Class taught by
Ray Zawacki and Pioneer’s drafting class with instructor,
Joe Dell’Anno. The home featured three bedrooms, a den-guest
room, a great room with a heatilator fireplace, a formal dining
room, a dinette, two full baths, two half baths, a large kitchen
with convection range and a two car garage. A unique feature
of this house was the passive solar sun room which was designed
to capture and release heat from the sun’s rays. The windows,
steel insulated exterior doors, ceilings and walls, with high
insulation rating and insulated foundation walls helped to make
this house very energy efficient. Interior decorations were
suggested by students in the Huron and Pioneer home decoration
class of Ms. Sandra Bailey and Ms. Joyce Prochnow.
The selling price of the home was $ 145,000.
