Under the continued watchful eye of the Board
President and Builder of Record, Henry Landau, the direction of
Instructor Haddick, and Vocational Education Director Earl
Shaffer the second home began to take shape for the program.
Nineteen students from Huron and Pioneer High Schools participated
in the construction. The 1971-72 school year brought an
important first to the program as two girls were admitted to the
previously all-male program.
Technical advice and assistance were given by
journeymen, craftsmen, building contractors and others related
to the building industry during each phase of construction.
Hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars worth of materials
and services continued to be donated by local business, associations
and industry. A new facet to this year’s program was
having the interior decoration of the house designed and coordinated
by the Huron and Pioneer High School Home Decoration classes.
Sixty eight students from the two schools were involved.
The house consisted of 1,900 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms,
2 half-baths, dining area, family room with fireplace, 2 car garage,
full basement with fireplace. The home sold for $43,900.
